The Rault Brothers

Lionel and Ron Rault are two of Alberta’s favourite blues-roots artists, and for good reason. They are intense, talented, soulful performers and gifted singers and songwriters with extraordinary scope in their creativity and understanding of the blues-roots genre.

These solid pillars in the Canadian music scene have played with some of the top innovators in blues history throughout their 40+ years as professional musicians: John Hiatt, Willie Dixon, John Hammond, Ruthie Foster, Jesse Winchester, Eric Bibb, J.J. Cale, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, the Staple Singers, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Junior Wells, Louisiana Red, Johnny Shines, Sonny Terry, Taj Mahal, and more.

Ron and Lionel continue to play a wide range of concert, nightclub, television, radio and music festival appearances. They were main constituents in the seminal Alberta blues band, Pontiac and continue to this day to be two of the most influential Alberta musicians in their field.

These days, when they aren't performing folk-roots-blues genres as The Rault Brothers, both Lionel and Ron can be found working on their music in a variety of settings and recording solo albums.

In addition to his extremely busy life as a musician, Lionel can be heard every weekday on CKUA Radio as the popular host of The Afternoon Addition while Ron shares his musical talents with the well-known Front Porch Roots Revue.

The Rault Brothers grew up in Edmonton, both have chosen to live here throughout their musical careers and raise their families in Edmonton. With some luck, it’s possible that a second-generation Rault musician, Michael, might unexpectedly share the stage with his dad and uncle at any performance!

Dwayne Hrynkiw

Dwayne is well-known in Edmonton music community as a multi-dimensional percussionist for several bands and genres, percussion instructor and board member of the Edmonton Jazz Society. This multi-disciplinary percussionist’s career spans over 25 years and many genres. Blues, jazz, salsa, rock or down to the deep rhythms of West Africa and beyond, Dwayne is able to transcend musical borders and bring mature, experienced rhythms to the mix for all musicians he performs with: Le Fuzz, Bob Tildesley, Scott Cook, Brett Miles, Mo Lefever, Front Porch Roots Revue. Tonight, he shares his superb drumming talents with Lionel and Ron Rault.
