June 16, 2012 event  --- Dr Blu

......brings passion and innovation to the eternal themes of struggle, redemption and hope. These guys love to play and as seasoned performers, they bring a maturity and confidence to the stage. They serve up an offering of blues that leads audiences on a stirring musical journey. Dr Randy Ritz, professional actor, educator and bandleader weaves real life stories into each creative set. Dr Blu has become a platform for writing great tunes and playing some challenging music.

Randy Ritz (lead guitar & vocals) - one of the early attendees at Grant MacEwans' Jazz music program who, in the early 1990's, shifted to bass player and front man for international recording artisits "Higher Power." With a Nashville contract in hand, their song "Cast a Light" hit top "11" on USA charts.

Over the years Randy "got tired of waiting for other musicians to commit to a band" and formed Dr Blu. This blues band is a vehicle for writing, great times and some challenging guitar. Whether rocking it up or delivering a quiet ballad, Randy sets the table for music and stories that are unique and refreshing!

Cam Heslep (drums) -  his first drum lesson was in 1969 where he was influenced by his teacher to play left handed. Since that inaugural lesson, Cam's unique style has carried on to today and is inspired by Teco Torres, the late Buddy Rich and the legendary Gene Krupa. Throughout his "jazz and blues drumming" career, Cam has had the opportunity to play at a variety of venues and for various artists. The diverse styles and genres have influenced Cam's experience and skill.

Murray Forbes (bass) - is a multi-talented, seasoned musician and songwriter. He has giged extensively and produced several Blues and Gospel recordings. He has played lead guitar and bass in blues, rock, country and gospel bands in various venues throughout Western Canada.

'SwordSongs', a well received 4 volume CD collection, has been his largest writing/recording endeavour to date.

Niels Reinholt (keys & vocals) - the newest member of Dr Blu, grew up playing constantly thanks to a supportive family and a small farming community. His self-taught style is largely forged from years of translating musical parts from other instruments to the piano, lessons in contemporary, classical and boogie. Niels spent over a decade performing in various locations from Trinidad to Yellowknife and from coast to coast. Now settled in Edmonton, he adds a new dimension to Dr Blu.
